Why Membership?
Membership in a local church is not anything new. Every letter written to a church in the Bible was written to the members of a local church. Being a member of a local church is committing to a specific group of people towards a specific, and common mission with those people. There are three primary reasons we believe membership matters.
Oneness - The Bible illustrates the church as one body, as a family, all working together for the glory of God and good of others. We are to be united as the Father, Son, and Spirit are united as one. If we are going to be united as one, it is important to know who is committing to be a part. (1 Corinthians 12:12-31)
Accountability - The Bible clearly says that we need each other to grow up in Christ. Being a member of a local church places each person into a position of accountability, where we can know each other and help one another along. Membership gives us the context for accountability to one another. (Hebrews 10:24-25, Proverbs 27:17)
Ownership - Being a member of a local church gives you ownership within that church. It’s not just the church, or a church, it is your church. You are an active part in helping build and grow the church. (Ephesians 4:11-17)
